Midlothian (Meadhan Lodainn in Gaelic) is one of 32 unitary council regions around Scotland, and the Lieutenancy Area. It borders onto South Lanarkshire, Scottish Borders, East Lothian, City of Edinburgh and West Lothian.
These are too the traditional county, which borders West Lothian to the west, Lanarkshire and Peeblesshire to the south, and Berwickshire and East Lothian to the east. It includes a city of Edinburgh, and is for instance referred to as Edinburghshire.
